Standing on Mt. Carmel...

...where Elijah and the Lord defeated the prophets of Baal. Overlooking the Jezreel Valley...

  • The Jezreel Valley is a large plain about twenty miles long and fourteen miles wide. The valley is ringed by mountains and shaped like an arrowhead pointing northwest directly to the Mediterranean Sea and Haifa.
  • Near the city of Jezreel, Gideon faced the Medianites (Judges 7), and later, King Saul was slain by the Philistines (I Samuel 31:1-3).
  • This plain is also known by several other names, including The Valley of Megiddo and Armageddon (or Har Mageddon of Revelation 16:16). Har Mageddon literally means hill or city of Megiddo.
The city of Megiddo is located on the southern border of this valley and will be our next tour stop. The excavation dates back to the days of Solomon.
